How To Prevent Back Injuries
Back pain is most likely what brought you into your chiropractors office in the first place. You may have been injured previously, recently, or are experiencing back pain due to everyday life. To help prevent this type of pain, there are a number of things you can do. One of which is going to the chiropractor for routine checkups and spinal alignments. Read on for a few other things you can do to strengthen your spine and prevent injuries.
Stretch Often
Stretching every single day can be very beneficial. It can help stretch the ligaments in the body, in addition to the muscles to help in preventing injuries. If you don't do stretches each day, you are going to most likely be injured more than someone that does stretch daily. This is because the body can withstand more and the muscles and ligaments can stretch or move more freely. Stretching such as toe touches, hamstring stretches, and even using an exercise ball to stretch your back muscles can all be beneficial in preventing injuries, especially back injuries.
Sit Up Straight
Your parents most likely told you this at a young age, but they weren't wrong. Sitting up straight and using proper posture will help your back and can prevent injuries. If you are hunched over while at work, it can cause a problem with your neck and your lower back. You may experience pain in these areas, and may also experience other issues such as migraines. Improve your posture daily and prevent issues or long term injuries.
Stop Looking Down At Your Phone/Tablet
This has become a generation of people always looking down at their phones or tables, or some other type of device. Use these devices properly and hold them at eye level. Your optometrist will also be thankful that you do this as well. Looking down can cause neck, shoulder and spinal issues, and it can also cause lower back pain as well, in addition to vision problems and other issues. Try to limit the time you spend on these devices as well, to prevent shoulder, back, and neck problems.
Get A New Mattress
If you're still sleeping on the same mattress you had in college, it's time to get rid of it. Mattresses can last a long time, but it is most likely worn out and not supporting your body as well as it should. Invest in a new mattress and you'll notice less back pain and probably a better nights sleep as well.
Preventing back injuries that are caused from day to day life can be done. Be sure to visit your chiropractor for routine visits and spinal alignments. Talk to your chiropractor about other helpful tips.
